Throughout its history Tuxford School has built strong links with the local community. One of the reasons for this is that the school serves an area of 200 square miles and so publicising events and opportunities in the school requires a special effort.
For many years links with community groups in Tuxford itself have been especially well-developed. The school has been represented on such groups as Tuxford Recreational Association, The Business Forum, The Crime Forum, Young People in Partnership and many more. Our Sports Co-ordinator Barbara Burton is involved in several sport development projects and she works closely with the local Sports College.
The creation of a dedicated Community Projects Team in the school has led to exciting new initiatives. Economic regeneration of the area (officially still suffering the consequences of declining employment in agriculture and the closure of a local colliery and power station) is one of our key Technology College commitments. We have initiated a computer lending scheme to encourage individuals to develop new skills and we are working with adult education providers towards this end too.
